This is an intro to User Experience workshop I’ve been teaching to my colleague Wayne Chang’s Enterprise Coop class (eCoop) at the University of Waterloo. Given that engineers often focus on technology, this workshop adds a bit more of a User-Centered Design (UCD) approach to their projects. We start by writing short love & breakup letters to websites and apps the students either love or get really frustrated with. I developed this Design Thinking workshop a few years back when I was asked to teach a group of business executives a few creative ways to solve problems. For this BrainStation course, I made a couple of changes to make it fit this slightly different audience.
Intro to User Experience (UX) and Design Thinking

Every summer a group of ITESM students come to Waterloo to experience the entrepreneurial ecosystem. After wandering around town and listening to lots of speeches, these young Mexican students are very keen to put their skills to use and start making things with their hands. Language barriers can easily be overcome with this hands-on workshop based on my User Experience course and the Stanford d.school Design Thinking model.
